Item PJBE-ADD1/6/4 - Letter from Gunther Schuller, 7 March 1973

Manuscript letter. Gunther Schuller writes that it was unnecessary for Jones to introduce himself when they last met as he remembered Jones from their previous meeting and being a horn player himself, he knows Jones as the best brass player in Britain. He holds him above other brass players as his work is in singlar contrast to those other "big shots" including "Mr. First Flute" who tried to tell Schuller than in England they say "bar, not measure". He expresses his delight in hearing that the PJBE has recorded his "Brass Symphony" and agrees to send Jones the sleeve notes he requested. He apologises for the delay in writing back to Jones due to his incredily busy schedule that means that "even with three secretaries, I can't keep up." In the postscript he lets Jones know that Elgar Howarth has permission to arrange his "Symphony for Brass Band" but that he must check in with his publishers.
