Biographical history
Philip Jones (1928-2000) was he founder of the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, an internationally acclaimed touring ensemble, and trumpeter. He was educated at the Royal College of Music and was employed by several orchestras before dedicating his career to his ensemble from 1951 until it disbanded in 1986. He then held posts at the Royal Northern College of Music and was Principal at Trinity College of Music.

Correspondence maily to Philip Jones regaring his performances from composers, letters regarding bookings and letters from friends. The series also contains a cashbook which has been used as a travel diary for the PJBE's tour of Brazil in 1985 with a letter from Jones to his wife Ursula inserted in it.
